The Seller’s Grandfather First Came to The Severn River in 1908 when he was 16 on a Canoe Trip with His Older Brother Robert Charles (nickname Chad), age 18. The First World War Started Before Either Brother Had a Chance to Return to Muskoka. Chad was Killed in Active Service in 1918 and When Walter Returned from The War, He Returned to The Severn River to Discover That in His Absence The Trent Severn Waterway had been Pushed Through and as a Result of The Higher water Level, He now Owned an Island.
He Chose The Name Chad’s Island in Honour of his Brother and Built a Lighthouse on The Point as a Memorial to Him.
Walter Built the Original Cottage in 1919 and existing Boathouse today in 1921 with Wood he Reclaimed from His Flooded Land Behind The Island.
The Island has Remained a Bark Family Cottage Passing from Walter to his Youngest Son John in 1978 and to John’s Eldest Son Chad in 1996. John Tore The Original Cottage Down in 1992 Because it had Twisted and Warped so Badly that it Could not be Rebuilt or Saved.
The New Cottage was built on the original site with plans drafted to have a similar appearance as the old, just a little bit bigger with straight lines and square corners!
